Ending Trnsmit

Since Rdio has shut down, Trnsmit will follow in its footsteps.

Trnsmit was a simple service to “convert” iTunes XML playlists into playlists on Rdio, the streaming music service. Over the last three years, the product went through two versions, was the impetus behind my first (and only) npm package, and helped thousands of people transfer their playlists. It even received praise from Jeffrey Zeldman.

Over its lifetime, Trnsmit moved over 11 thousand playlists containing nearly 1.7 million tracks. Here were the top ten artists (as measured by number of tracks transferred):

  1. The Beatles
  2. U2
  3. Coldplay
  4. Radiohead
  5. Bob Dylan
  6. Red Hot Chili Peppers
  7. Led Zeppelin
  8. The Rolling Stones
  9. R.E.M.
  10. David Bowie

If you’re interested in the data, I hope to anonymize and publish the 130MB SQLite database soon. Please contact me.

Thanks for making Trnsmit a success.
